Ode to Baylor

Baylor was our family pet. He was adopted through the Weimaraner Rescue of North Texas in 2002. He was about 4-5 years old when we got him. In July of 2008, Baylor passed away very unexpectedly. We loved him so much. He was the most absolute best dog I have ever seen. He did not bark, he got along with other dogs and cats, he had the best temperment, very laid back and did not get too excited about much of anything. He was wonderful with the girls. He use to let them dress him up and put all kinds of crazy things on him. Other than the occasional "counter surfing", I would almost say he was perfect. He was definitely a man's dog. He worshiped the ground Jay walked on - when Jay would sit down in his recliner - there was Baylor waiting to be petted. Baylor always knew where Jay was in the house, because he was right there with him all the time. Yes, even at naptime - Jay and Baylor would take their Sunday afternoon nap together. Jay would take Baylor to the park a few times a week so he could run wide open and chase the mean old squirrels. We miss Baylor very much!

We have been deciding on whether or not to get another dog - or should I say when we would get another dog. Of course, it has be another weimaraner. Recently we went back and visited some dogs at the Weimraner Rescue of North Texas, and decided to sign up to be a Foster home for the dogs. Well - we got the call today and we go to pick up our first Foster dog tomorrow afternoon. Jay is soooooooo excited. He has really missed Baylor more than anyone in house I am sure. He just can't contain his excitement. He says he won't be able to sleep tonight. I had to remind him - we are "fostering" right??? I was not so sure by the way he was acting. So we sat the kids down and explained what it means to foster the dog. We will see how all of this goes....who knows this could be the new family pet!! Will keep ya posted.
